A few weeks ago we unveiled the updated design of the notepad of the future. The concept – the Netpad – is the creation of a talented trio of tech minds, T3, Medion, The Alloy, and shaped and honed by your feedback following the first three designs.

- See the Netpad renders
- See the initial three designs
- Your original feedback

No sooner had we unleashed the new designs on the world than we took a step back and asked once more for your all-important feedback. Before we take the Netpad to the next level, we’ll look at what you said and alter things accordingly.

So what exactly did you think? See below for some of your comments:

“I really like touch screen technology. I’m not sure about the hot keys around the edge of the device, though. I find it too easy to touch these by mistake, for example the ones on my PDA, opening up software and making changes that I don’t really want to. How about a single hot key that brings up a screen menu to make the adjustments?”

“Needs a 500gb SSD drive, 1080p HDMI output, fast atom processor, 12 hour battery life (London to LA flight), WiFi, Bluetooth, 5MP webcam, 10-inch OLED touchscreen, can be docked into desktop to become a dual-processor beast, OS on a chip which can be upgraded/changed and not require HDD space, universal PSU that fits every laptop/netbook, built in TV tuner … just for starters!”

“Needs to be lightweight yet robust for wheelchair mounting if ever needed by disabled users.”

“Dam you T3 just as I went and bought a laptop!
1. Multi touchscreen for design applications and general use
2. In built groove port to place the 01 phone, a sleek and sexy groove.
3 Tri-fold design on the screen, so that you get double screens, one folds under and one over.
4. Maybe a mini screen on the outer case for quick load, so that you can check emails and social sites, instead of having to wait to load the whole computer, or even one that updates itself.”

“Nice design, though an iPhone-like app store would make ita winner tbh. If not add Android for a versatile OS.”

“Looks really good, I just hope it doesn’t cost too much so I can get one.”

“Good machine only let down by Windows 7. Try Linux; much better.”

“To me, the ideal netpad should be in two separate pieces: one piece comprises of the screen and the other, a detachable slim Bluetooth operated keyboard, that way it provides the option for the user to bring the complete unit or just the screen.”

“How about a rechargeable battery charged through friction?”

“Multi Touch screen (OLED) and Multi Touch gestures.”

“Great netbook. I would suggest a touch stick/pen so that you could use the netbook for handwritten work.”

“Materials looks good, but overall problem is thickness… way too thick as a tablet and should be 12mm thick.”

At T3, we like concepts. They represent the very cutting edge future of technology and product design. A concept is a dream; brimming with the features and design you want with nary a polite ‘hello’ to the physical limitations that’d make it impossible in the real world.

Inevitably either things would cost too much, can’t be made that small, or are light-years ahead of today’s available tech. Either way, it’s not enough to stop us dreaming and admiring the tech of the future. Case in point is the Notebook of the future that this very site glorifies.

Your feedback on our future tech designs.

We showed you our three market-altering designs and let you have your say. Were they good enough? Was there one perfect design, or did each contain flashes of greatness? Your opinions shaped the design we now have from the guys at The Alloy and Medion.

As a reminder, the three designs were:

Orbit
Touchscreen tablet meets e-book reader.

Luna
The QWERTY-toting ceramic netbook with full body armour.

Satellite
Removable screen, portable web browsing and picture frame.

Here’s what you had to say about the designs:

“I like the Satellite the best, it reminds me of the ASUS T91 I think it’s called. Touchscreens are the future! Although I’d like to see a stylus added, I think even if you don’t want to use the stylus it’s still a good idea to include one.”

“The Luna is the sleekest of the bunch, the idea of having a QWERTY keyboard that you can pull across the screen sounds amazing. Would it be a thin rubber mat, which could be hidden in a secret compatment on the back? Or would it be a full touchscreen?”

“Can I suggest a headphone jack is added, though? I’d like to use it as a portable media player as well, it’d be pretty cool to use the Luna on the tube.”

“I like the Satelite as it looks the coolest, though I would leave off the swivel function. Keep it as a normal netbook, and then we’ll talk money!”

“The Orbit seems like a fantastic concept, however I hope it’s as lightweight and compact as an ebook. It would make an excellent convergence device, as at the moment the ebook is too much of a one-use gadget.”

“Satellite is easy the best of the three. Loving the detachable screen and the build-in LCD on the keyboard.”

“Favourite: The Orbit. Stepping in right direction for size, weight, screen technology and style Good that it can be used as ‘touchbook’ as well as traditional portable computer. I have reservations about using it on a lap – I can’t see how it would work in its current state.”

“I like the Satellite for keyboard removeability – could use as video viewer when sat on the bed but still send facebook messages and twitter. What would be great would be a removable battery of different size for long/short trips and 3G build in for cloud computing.”

“The Luna. The idea of a durable netbook with stand would definitely make it stand out from what’s already available.”

“Satellite should have a virtual keyboard on the screen, so that you don’t need the keyboard when you’re out an about. And needs some armour (3DO?) so that it can handle knocks.”

T3’s bid to create the ultimate mobile computer continues

The ultimate notebook – or Netpad as we’re calling it – is in the advanced design stages thanks to some sterling work by our friends at The Alloy.

Earlier this year, we asked for your suggestions on what the netbook of the future should look like. Medion and The Alloy then brought the ideas to life with three startlingly bold designs (The Luna, Orbit and Satellite), and once again we asked for your input.

The Alloy took your feedback on those designs and sculpted them into the device you see before you.

Click through the gallery to scope out the tech, materials and unique design that’s gone into our dream computer.

T3’s Netpad: the future of mobile computing is in your hands.

We still want to know what you think. Use the suggestions box below, or DM us on Twitter (@T3Futuretech) with your feedback.

We’ve gathered your ideas, picked a winning eureka moment and drawn out three future netbook concepts. What next in our quest for ultimate tech? Your feedback is what we need now…

Take a look at the three concepts: Luna, Satellite and Orbit and let us know what you think. Do like the cut of the Luna’s jib? Partial to the ebook reader feel of the Orbit? Detest the swivel on the Satellite? We want to know.

Send us your suggestions on the Future Tech home page here. Or tweet us @t3futuretech.

Once you’ve had your two pennies worth we’ll send it along to The Alloy, and with their help we’ll take it from conception to completion.

We know the winning idea, but here's the best of the rest...

Back in September 2008, T3 launched the 01 Phone to rapturous applause, for our next project we’ve teamed up with Medion to create the ultimate future gadget.
A few months ago we asked you what you’d like to see. All we needed was an idea to take from the initial stage all the way to manufacture. You submitted ideas in your droves and we’ve plucked the most promising. We now know the winning ideas was, but who submitted it, and who came close?

The Future Netbook

Without doubt, the biggest response to our Design the Future campaign was the call for a future netbook. Since the success of the 01 Phone, T3 has been itching to design a new, improved netbook and it seems dozens of you had the same idea.

However, there has to be a winner and Mark McDermott’s netbook design proved worthy of first prize. Among other things, Mark would like to see a swivel display, touch-sensitive screen for quick access to apps, a slide-out keyboard to keep the size and weight down and a 20 minute recharging cycle. Well done Mark.

The best of the rest…

iWatch

There are 35,000 Apple apps currently available and many of them would be transferable to the iWatch, which would include a miniature touchscreen, Bluetooth audio connectivity, GPS and wireless data synchronisation.
STEVE FLETCHER, VIA EMAIL

Snapshot of the future

I’d like to see digital cameras that feature an easy way to share your photos with others instantly, either with a built-in projector, or a pull-out OLED screen. Also, wireless printing and charging would be helpful.
TOM CARTER, VIA T3.COM

Bike radar

How about a heads-up display built into a motorcycle helmet visor, so you don’t have to take your eyes off of the road to check your speedometer?
BRETT1279, VIA T3.COM

High-spec spectacles

I would like to own a pair of glasses with a discrete microphone, headphones and Bluetooth connectivity to communicate with an iPhone, or other device. A heads-up display would project incoming calls, contacts, media playback and applications.
SNEAKYWHALE, VIA T3.COM

Phone teller

Being disabled, I’d like a phone with an amplified earpiece that bleeps when a call is incoming, caller ID facility, and an option to remotely activate the answerphone.
THORPLANDS1, VIA T3.COM

Guiding light

I suggest glasses for the blind that detect obstacles ahead and apply pressure to the right or left arm to instruct the wearer to move to avoid collision.
DALMETAK1, VIA T3.COM

Card sharp

A credit card-sized gadget that can store the details of all the cards in your wallet. You could pick any card stored in its memory and use its PIN number to make purchases. It could also feature fingerprint recognition.
DJUTTEMEIER, VIA T3.COM

Last year our Future Tech project was to The 01 Phone. After tirelessly collating all of your revolutionary suggestions for the 01 Phone we went back to the drawing board, with or cohorts The Alloy and came back with an upgraded, snazzed-up version of the 01 Phone, complete with nattily redesigned miniphone and based on what you want.

We took the 01 Phone to the Mobile World Congress and got the low-down from the top industry dogs, watch the video to find out all the reactions from last years 01 phone.

This year we hope to do the same and create the ultimate netbook.
T3’s hunt for tech perfection continues. Find out what happens next as we team up with Medion attempt to create the ultimate netbook and see how you can get involved.

Last year we set our sights on creating the ultimate smartphone and, with your input, the 01Phone was born.

Not satisfied with the one success, we’re back on the campaign trail to create more cutting edge tech. So this year, we asked you to send us your ideas for the gadgets you’d like to see given the Future Tech treatment. We’ve also teamed-up with forward thinking technology giants Medion on our quest to greatness.

Over the past couple of months you’ve racked your brains and from your tech eureka moments, we’ve seen high-spec spectacles, a digital credit card and a teaspoon to test the temperature of your brew. But there has to be a winner and in the end the top idea was a future netbook.

Future Tech: What next?

Since picking the winning idea, the design geniuses at The Alloy (our buddies on the 01 phone) have been furiously sketching and have come up with three revolutionary designs based around the brief for a rugged, innovative netbook.

We’ll deal with cold, hard specs later but at this stage it’s all about design. And right now, though, we need your input.

Which concept would you like to see become reality? Take a look through our three brand new design concepts; Concept Luna, Concept Satellite and Concept Orbit and be sure to send us your comments, Tweet us with your views and make sure you’ve had your say on how the Future Tech netbook needs to look.
